Many of John Hall's early visual poems were designed as cards or as frames to hang or stand in domestic settings. It was not until 2002 that an exhibition took place - in the Dartington Gallery.
Following this, Tony Frazer curated another exhibition in his Shearsman web gallery (Through the Gap) and Tilla Brading and Derrick Woolf inserted an A3 double spread of a lone knower's disavowals in Poetry Quarterly Review.
A version of Changing
Lines, intended to span the categories of page writing and
visual poem, is up on the Great
Works website. Other work was included in the exhibition designed to celebrate
ten years of performance writing at Dartington and was shown in Exeter, Dartington
and Washington DC in 2004.
A second Dartington Gallery exhibition in July 2005 called O no what does this know was timed to coincide with the submission of published works for a PhD by publication. I hope to be able to show images that were included soon.
Two exhibitions are scheduled for 2008, one in Plymouth and one in Thornbury (near Bristol). Details will follow.
